          The DVIFA’s Foreign Language Center is responsible for enhancing English and other foreign languages skills among personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ and other government agencies, including state enterprises and independent organisation, with a view to enhancing their communicative skills to the levels required for working in an international context.

 

English Courses for Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

          1. English Language Enhancement Course for Secretaries and Counselors Preparing for Overseas Postings 

              This intensive, 30-hour course aims to enhance English proficiency in reading, listening, writing and speaking.

          2. English Language Enhancement Course for Support Staff Preparing for Overseas Postings 

              This intensive, 30-hour course aims to equip the participants with the skills necessary for overseas postings, especially in reading, listening, speaking and writing.

          3. English Language Course for Support Staff Preparing for Overseas Postings

              This 180-hour course focuses on English for overseas postings.  The course aims to equip the participants with the skills necessary for overseas postings, especially in reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.

          4. English Language Course for Home-Based Staff

              This 120-hour course aims to enhance participants’ reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills to facilitate their work tasks.  Those with high scores are eligible for participation in a 5-day English workshop held in Singapore.

 

Other foreign languages course for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ personnel

          The Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs provides foundational level training in other foreign language courses and culture to MFA personnel.  These courses enable them to perform their duties at the Ministry’s headquarter as well as abroad.

          The Institute’s 60-hour fundamental and advanced Chinese language courses are provided on a regular basis, while on French, German and Japanese courses are made available in collaboration with external specialists.  The Institute also offers intensive, 50-hour pre-posting courses in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Polish and Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew.

 

English courses for non MFA personnel

          1. Intensive Language Course (ILC)

              This 6-week course is designed for officials from other government agencies and state enterprises. The course aims to equip the participants with basic reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.

          2. Oral Communication Course (OCC)

              This 4-week course is designed for officials from other government agencies and state enterprises (mid-level up).  The course aims to improve communicative competency with a particular focus on: making presentations, taking part in discussions and expressing opinions at international meetings.  As part of their training, the participants attend an English workshop held in Singapore.

          3. Advanced Oral Communication Course (AOCC)

              This 5-week course is designed for officials from other government agencies and state enterprises (senior level). The course aims to enhance the participants’ communication skills, develop higher level presentation skills and equip them with the necessary skills to function effectively at international meetings. During the fourth and fifth weeks of the course, participants attend classes at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) in New Zealand.
