Opening Ceremony of the English Programme for Home-based Staff 2026

The Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA) is responsible for continuously enhancing the foreign language skills, primarily English, of officials across all levels and career streams within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For home-based officials, who play vital roles in supporting the Ministry’s core missions, the DVIFA conducts the “English Programme for Home-based Staff” annually. The programme focuses on strengthening participants’ English language skills in all areas, as well as improving overall communication by building greater confidence and effectiveness.

The Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs has been developing and organising the English Programme for Home-based Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs annually. In 2026, the programme was conducted from 12 March to 22 May 2026 (twice a week), to enhance the competency of the supporting staff in their English-related work, allowing them to perform their duties more effectively, as well as building their confidence in using English for communication in a variety of situations.

On 6 May 2026, Mr. Chuchart Jirojkul, Director of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA), met with Dr. Yuhki Tajima, Rector of Georgetown University (GU) School of Foreign Service Asia Pacific (based in Jakarta). The meeting was also attended by Dr. Scott Guggenheim, Director of Policy Labs and Professor of Research and Practice at Georgetown University.

On 23 March 2026, Mr. Chuchart Jirojkul, Director of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA), presided over the closing ceremony of the Oral Communication Course (OCC) 2026 and presented certificates to the participants, at the TK. Palace Hotel and Convention. There were a total of 17 participants from 17 organisations took part in the programme. The participants were civil servants at the professional level or above, and state enterprise employees at equivalent levels, including 2 expert-level officers, 2 junior executive-level officers, 6 senior professional-level officers, and 7 professional-level officers.

On 27 March 2026, Mr. Chuchart Jirojkul, Director of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA), welcomed H.E. Mr. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand to the Institute. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on global developments and international relations. They also discussed ongoing cooperation in diplomatic training between DVIFA and the Foreign Service Academy (FSA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. Both sides explored possible avenues to further expand collaboration and to modernize training programmes with the aim to better equip diplomats for evolving global challenges.

On 16 March 2026, Mr. Chuchart Jirojkul, Director of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA), presided over the opening of “The 2026 Knowledge of Diplomacy (KOD) for Versatile Diplomats.” The programme, held from 16 to 21 March 2026, brought together 20 diplomats from 20 countries across seven regions: Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, South America, and Oceania. That evening, Mrs. Arunee Hiam, Deputy Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), hosted a welcome dinner in honour of the participants. The Director of the DVIFA, together with representatives from TICA, the International Studies Centre (ISC), the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, and the Department of Consular Affairs, also joined the dinner to welcome participants.
