Academic Seminar on “History of Thai Diplomacy during the Reign of King Rama 1 - 5”

                       On 28 March 2017, the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs and Department of European Affairs co-hosted a seminar on a history of Thai diplomacy during the reign of King Rama I – V. On this occasion, Mr. Krailerk Nana, a historian and a writer with expertise in history of Thai – European relations as well as a columnist for Sinlapawatthanatham (Arts and Culture) column, Matichon newspaper, was invited as a guest speaker. The seminar aimed to honor His Majesty King Chulalongkorn on a commemoration of the 120th anniversary of His Majesty visit to Europe in 2017. The seminar was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other agencies as well as professors and students from Thai academic institutions with 153 participants.

                       The seminar aimed to disseminate a body of knowledge on a history of Thai foreign affairs which displayed the ingeniusness and the strategies implemented by Siamese Kings (Rama I – V) along with the continuation of a profound Siamese diplomatic policy. Furthermore, the guest speaker presented and displayed information referred in a number of historic and valuable documents, such as, European newspapers of the mentioned period, and rare photos collected over the past 30 years.
