On 25 September 2026, Mr. Chuchart Jirojkul, Director of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA), welcomed H.E. Mr. Manuel Nuche Bascón, Ambassador of Spain to Thailand, on the occasion of his visit to the Institute.

The two sides discussed preparations for the 4th Spain -Thailand Forum, to be hosted by the Spanish side during 21 - 22 October 2026 in Madrid. They also exchanged views on ways to promote cooperation in diplomatic training, including enhancing collaboration between the DVIFA and the Diplomatic School of Spain (Escuela Diplomática). Such cooperation would facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as promote training exchanges between Thai and Spanish diplomats.

In addition, both sides exchanged information on Spanish language training for Thai diplomats and on Spanish language instructors in Thailand, who play an important role in using language and culture as a means of fostering closer people-to-people ties.

The Spain - Thailand Forum is an academic cooperation framework between Thailand and Spain, established in 2022. It is a joint initiative of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs, the International Studies Center (ISC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Casa Asia of Spain. The framework is supported by the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid and the Embassy of Spain in Thailand in driving forward and implementing activities under this cooperation framework.
