Closing Ceremony for the 2022 Online Spanish Language Course for Thai Civil Servants

          The Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA) in cooperation with the Embassy of Colombia to Thailand again organized an online Spanish language course for Thai Civil Servants. This annual course was first established in 2019. This project aims to develop knowledge of the Spanish language along with promoting Colombian art and culture in order to strengthen diplomatic relationships between the people of the two countries.

          On 16 December 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia organized the closing ceremony of the Online Spanish Course in order to congratulate the participants, from
27 countries around the world, who successfully completed the course. This year, 54 Thai civil servants completed the course; 5 participants were from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and 49 participants were from other public organizations. Representatives from the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation - APC Colombia, the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures from the Universidad de la Sabana and the Department of Cultural Affairs as well as course trainees and relevant staff all participated in the closing ceremony.

          This year, there were 3 levels with 5 classes (A1-3 classes, A2-1 class and B1-1 class).
The training schedule started on 22 August and ran until 16 December 2022 (Mondays to Fridays
two days per week after working hours) for a total of 136 hours. The Thai civil servants studied with foreign participants from the Philippines, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Kazakhstan.

          At the event, Mr. Luis Armando Soto Bouin, the Director of the Cultural Affairs Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia congratulated all course participants and pointed out that the aim of this course was to expose the participants to Colombian arts and culture, to foster a deeper knowledge of Colombia, together with developing their Spanish language skills, primarily as a diplomatic tool to strengthen good relations between Thailand and Colombia.  Also, he extended his thanks to the DVIFA, as well as the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in their organizational support leading to the successful delivery of the course.

          Then, Ms. Bo Chinkanokrat the Industrial Technical Officer, Professional Level from the Ministry of Industry, the course representative, delivered a thank you speech to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand for working together in conducting this course. She expressed her appreciation of the course, which was an excellent opportunity for Thai civil servants to learn Spanish, one of the world’s most important languages, with lecturers from a leading university in Colombia. In addition, she hopes that this useful course will continue to be offered in the future.
