During 7 - August 2023, the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs, by the support of the Kasemsamosorn Fund and in collaboration with the Clingendael Institute of the Netherlands, organized the Seminar on International Negotiations for Thai diplomats from the Minister-Counsellor level and above. On this occasion, Mr. Christiaan Nelisse, Senior Academy Fellow and Ms. Martine van Mil, Academy Fellow, two experts on negotiation skills from the Clingendael Insitute, were invited to Thailand to train the diplomats.
Negotiation is a vital skill in diplomacy for it is often used as a tool to protect and maximize the interest of the country. Being a good negotiator with effective skills would require knowledge, preparation and strategies which may differ in bilateral and multilateral forums. This course therefore provides training from principles and theory, stages in the preparation process to strategy planning, presentation and simulation exercises.
Clingendael Institute is one of the leading diplomatic think tanks in Europe and the world. Each year, the Institute trains and cooperates with approximately 2,500 diplomats and experts from over 60 countries worldwide.
