On 26 January 2026, Lieutenant Sorawut Preedidilok, Minister attached to Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), officially opened the 3rd Diplomatic Workshop for New Diplomats from Myanmar. The workshop took place during 25 - 30 January 2026 and welcomed 33 participants. Dr. Zaw Linn Maung, Director of the Minister's Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, led the delegation to Thailand, which included 30 new Myanmar diplomats and 2 facilitators for their diplomatic training. In the evening, Mr. Vorapun Srivoranart, Deputy Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs, hosted a welcome dinner for the delegation and underscored the strong cordial ties between Thailand and Myanmar.

The Department of East Asian Affairs proposed the organization of this workshop, which was funded by TICA. The workshop aimed to further strengthen the existing close relations and cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar, and to provide new diplomats from Myanmar with insights into Thailand's foreign policy, as well as essential diplomatic skills to effectively navigate current international challenges.

The workshop included topics such as challenges and opportunities in ASEAN, diplomatic protocol, consular diplomacy, and writing effective talking points. Participants also participated in networking sessions with Thai diplomats and study visits to experience Thailand’s community development projects and efforts to tackle current challenges, such as energy security, firsthand. In this regard, they visited the Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Center, the Sufficiency Economy Learning Center at Ban Hua Kapi in Chachoengsao Province, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) Learning Center.

Prior to the end of the course on 29 January 2026, Mr. Chuchart Jirojkul, Minister Counsellor and Representative of the Director of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA), delivered the closing remarks. He highlighted the workshop’s objectives to strengthen diplomatic skills and to deepen the bonds of friendship between Thailand and Myanmar. Dr. Zaw Linn Maung expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand for organizing the workshop.

Since 2023, TICA has allocated funding for this diplomatic training programme. TICA organized the first workshop in 2023, while DVIFA co-organized the second and third workshop in 2024 and 2026 respectively. In total, 72 junior diplomats and officials from Myanmar have participated in the three workshops.
